    Gardens of the Ninjas?

The beautiful Zen style forest, with bridges, waterfalls and colorful plants are home to the mysterious LEGO Ninjas. The concept art is amazing – let’s hope it is even better once the game is released!

    What’s happening in this picture?
This is an initial color study of a ninja forest entry area.

What were the inspirations behind this image?
I was inspired by Zen gardens and other Japanese garden elements.

    Minifigs of LEGO Town!

Seems like it won’t be such a warm welcome for these characters. The two left pictures show the “Town Crier”, likened to a person standing in a soapbox. The second is a cool tech-geared cleaner based on hazmat workers. It be interesting to see the new “Town Crier” as they have mentioned it to have moved on, but otherwise you should see these cleaners in the game.

What were the inspirations behind this image?

The Town Crier was based off of a fellow who may stand on the street corner shouting from his soapbox, generally being ignored by most people. The cleaner was based on hazmat workers with large cleaning machines on their backs (sprayers, vacuums, etc.).

Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
This was the very first study for these characters. I think we have moved on to better ideas for the Town Crier, but you’ll see very similar looking cleaners in-game.

The Pirate Captain and the Pirate Camp

We can see in this concept art the first glimpse of the “Pirate Captain”. Apparently, the Pirate Captain will set quests for you to complete. We can also see the magnificent pirate camp!

    What’s happening in this image?

This is a camp that is the setting for a pirate captain who provides a number of quests for the player.

    A Ghost with a Cold?

LEGO Universe will be full of surprises and mysteries. Here we have a new concept picture of a ghost that seems to be hanging around “Monarch’s tomb”.

What were the inspirations behind this image?
    Ghosties and ghoulies!

    What’s happening in the image?
This area hosts a ghost who happens to have a very creepy, raspy voice. It turns out that he just has a sore throat! With a little help from you, he can soothe his pain with a nice drink.

    LEGO Insects?

Seems like creepy crawlies will also inhabit LEGO Universe and they seem to be very different to the insects on Earth. In a new poll, it’s asking which you would prefer. Would you want a Ball Beatle, a Scuttling Skull or a Barbed Larva?

    The Latest Buzz

The first glimpse of a puzzle/minigame that might be in LEGO Universe has been revealed. The game, likely to be called named “Bug Zapper Rebuild”. Jerry Mayer, Concept Artist explains it further:

    What’s happening in the image?
Your character puts together the LEGO bug zapper puzzle. Once it’s completed, bugs come out of nowhere and cover it!

What’s your favorite thing about this piece?
The surprise that happens once the bug zapper is completed.

Anything else you’d like us to know?
What’s not shown is four more storyboard frames of a giant moth that slowly flies in and completely smashes the bug zapper, resetting the puzzle for the next player!

    Prehistoric LEGO?

Looks like LEGO Universe will have a couple of eager archeologists after seeing this latest concept. A mysterious dinosaur has been trapped in the cliff face. Do you think it could come alive?

What were the inspirations behind this image?

This is one of the LEGO® Creator sets used as a large fossil exposed on a cliff face. There are a couple of paleontology exhibits around Colorado, where you can go see preserved digs with the bones still in the rock. I remember one as a kid that was sort of similar to this, which my biggest inspiration here.

    Wood you like to play?

Seems like LEGO Universe is a great place for fun and games. Seems like there might be several playground items in parks around LEGO Universe. Would there be a swing?

What’s your favorite thing about this piece?
I like the natural combination of the brick and organic material.

    What’s happening in the image?
Trees are growing out of the wooden LEGO brick–yay!

Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
Try to imagine a park full of these brick inspired wood blocks everywhere! Now that’s fun!!

    Married Minifigures? Ninja Treehouses?

A brand new screenshot of LEGO Universe has been uploaded of a cool treehouse design with a magnificent door. It looks like this might be set in Wonderland. Notice the Harry Potter minifig!

What were the inspirations behind this image?
An incredible tree house with a grand entrance that a minifigure wizard would live when he gets married.

What’s your favorite thing about this piece?
I’ve used the actual Ninja LEGO® set for the entrance design.
